Drive to test quality of fertilizers, seeds and pesticides

Raipur, Sep 12: As per the instructions of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, special monitoring is being done by the Agriculture Department on the quality of chemical fertilizers, seeds and pesticides in the state. The district level officers of the Agriculture Department are continuously raiding their respective areas and collecting samples of seeds, fertilizers and pesticides, which are being tested in the quality control laboratory.
As on 08 September, 39 samples of seeds and 95 samples of chemical fertilizers have been found sub-standard in the state in the Kharif season 2021. Apart from banning the sale of lots with immediate effect, the Agriculture Department has issued notices to the firms concerned. One of the 67 analysed samples of insecticides was found sub standard.
According to the information received from the Agriculture Department, so far 2234 samples of seeds have been collected for testing in Kharif season 2021.
After testing of all the samples, 2195 were found to be of standard level while 39 samples were found to be sub-standard. Similarly, for checking the quality of chemical fertilizers, 2279 samples have been collected by the fertilizer inspectors of the Agriculture Department from various institutions and 2131 of them have been tested.
Testing of 148 samples is going on. Out of the analyzed samples of chemical fertilizers, 2036 were found to be of standard level whereas 95 were found to be sub-standard. With the department banning the sale of lots of sub-standard seeds and fertilizers, show cause notices have been issued to the institutions concerned. The team of Agriculture Department is also checking the quality of insecticides.
The investigation team has so far collected a total of 163 samples from different firms, out of which 67 samples were analyzed and 66 samples were found to be of standard level and one sample was found to be sub-standard.
