July 2023: Hottest Month

- Yash pal Ralhan, Jalandhar

July 2023 is on track to become the hottest month ever recorded, as warned by U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres and confirmed by the U.N. World Meteorological Organization and the EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service. Recent extreme temperatures, such as China’s record-breaking 52.2 degrees Celsius, highlight the severity of the ongoing global heatwave. Projected to be at least 0.2°C warmer than the previous record in 2019, this month’s mean global temperature is alarming.

The combination of human-caused climate change and the El Nino event amplifies the warming effect, emphasizing the need to address the climate crisis urgently. The rising greenhouse gas emissions remain a critical factor contributing to this concerning scenario.
