IMD issues alert for heavy rain and snowfall in Uttarakhand

India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Uttarakhand due to the prediction of heavy to very heavy snowfall in the hills and rainfall in most parts of the state today and tomorrow. IMD said that heavy rain and snowfall accompanied by a thunderstorm is likely to take place at isolated places in Garhwal region today. The weather department said, Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri and Tehri districts are likely to witness hail and lightning. It said Kumaon region will be most affected with heavy to very heavy rain and snowfall predicted in hilly districts. Intense to very intense showers are likely at isolated places in Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar districts. IMD has advised the state government to take preventive measures as it warned of landslides at isolated places in vulnerable areas due to heavy rainfall. Met department also warned that roads and highways may get blocked due to snow and rainfall.
