Election Commission of India has declared that the election to the 140 member Kerala legislative assembly will be held on April 6th 2021.The counting of votes will takes place on May 2nd.

Kerala gears up for assembly polls, the State is sure to witness a strong contest between the three major fronts, the ruling CPM lead Left Democratic front, LDF, the Congress lead United Democratic Front, UDF and the BJP lead NDA.

In the last elections, in 2016, LDF won the majority with 91 seats, UDF won 47seats and the BJP opened their account in the State with one seat.

When the ruling LDF will be highlighting the State government’s achievements in the last five years with the boosted confidence of their victory in the recent local body elections, the opposition Congress strongly believes that they can repeat the victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections this time and BJP is hopeful that the Central government’s administrative achievements will win more seats for them this time .

The ongoing PSC agitation, EMCC agreements, gold smuggling case, Sabarimala etc will all be part of the political discourse in coming days.

In the electoral history of Kerala, no front has ever had the opportunity to come to power twice in a row.

This time Keralites will be anxiously waiting to see if this pattern will change or not.
