‘Amarinder agrees to Sidhu’s promotion but with riders’

New Delhi, Jul 17: Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Saturday agreed to a Congress plan to promote rival Navjot Singh as the party’s state president and end the simmering mutiny but listed terms for the solution, sources said.
Captain Singh’s agreement came after a meeting with Congress’s Punjab in-charge Harish Rawat who flew in a helicopter from Delhi to meet the Chief Minister in Chandigarh. Sources said Captain Singh agreed to accept any decision taken by party chief Sonia Gandhi.
However, Captain Singh also said that he should be involved by the party leadership while taking important decisions and that Sidhu’s appointment should complement his efforts in helping the party come back to power in the next year’s elections, sources said.
Captain Singh also demanded that he be given a free hand in reshuffling his cabinet and in the appointment of working presidents under Sidhu.
The chief minister also said he raised certain issues with Rawat during the fruitful meeting at his farmhouse in Mohali.
Had a fruitful meeting with @harishrawatcmuk. Reiterated that any decision of @INCIndia Pres dent will be acceptable to all. Raised certain issues which he said he’ll take up with @INCIndia president , @capt_amarinder, according to a tweet by Amarinder Singh’s media advisor.
Rawat did not give away details of the meeting either.
One thing is very clear.. Captain Amarinder Singh ji who had earlier made a ‘mahan’ (great) statement that that whatever decision will be taken by the Congress president will be honoured by him reiterated that statement today, Rawat told reporters.
