Police busts illegal arms manufacturing unit

Muzaffarnagar, Apr 02 (PTI): The Muzaffarnagar police on Friday busted an illegal arms manufacturing unit in the district and said it was supplying arms to people with criminal antecedents involved in the ongoing Uttar Pradesh Panchayat election process.
Police also arrested six persons involved in operating the unit and recovered 17 finished country-made pistols, 10 semi-finished ones besides several pistol barrels and other parts and implements used in manufacturing them, Muzaffarnagar Superintendent of Police Arpit Vijay said.
The gangsters were operating the arms manufacturing unit inside a sugarcane field by the Hakheri road under the New Mandi police station area, he said, adding these people were also involved in supplying arms to people with criminal antecedents involved in the upcoming panchayat elections.
The arrested accused are Sudhir Balyan, Sagar Balyan, Vishal Rajput, Nishant, Sunil and Javed, the SP said.
He added that one of the accused absconded during the police raid.
The SP also announced a cash reward of Rs 20,000 for the police team which busted the illegal arms manufacturing unit.
