Women’s Commission hears 84 cases in 4 days

Raipur, Sep 24: Cases pertaining to atrocity against women were heard for 4th consecutive day today at State Women’s Commission Office, Shastri Chowk in presence of Commission Chairperson Dr Kiranmayi Nayak and members Anita Rawte, Shashikanta Rathor and Archana Upadhyaya.
In one of the cases a married man marries another woman without seeking divorce from first wife. During hearing today, second wife and two elder brothers of man were present. Both elder brothers said that non applicant committed mistake by marrying another woman and had not given any maintenance to first wife.
Applicant lives in a family house where non applicant’s father and brother also reside. Non applicant and entire family decided in social meeting in this case that half of the portion of property of father would be given to applicant and both elder brothers of man would support in providing portion of his property to applicant. Offence under Section 494 of IPC can be registered against non applicant and second wife in this case.
Applicant can lodge report with Police against both of them. The applicant claimed maintenance from husband and second wife in this case.
Husband and second wife agreed to deposit Rs 6000 every month on bank account of applicant besides allowing her to live in the house. In case of delay in payment of maintenance in a month, the applicant can lodge report with the police. With this instruction the commission kept this case under six months of observation. As many as 84 cases pertaining to atrocity against women were put forward before the commission during last four days.
