Women have to strive harder to prove themselves: Anshu Vaish

“A good leader is one who is a good listener, a good learner, approaches work with commitment, leads the team and is innovative. I am happy to note that innovative initiatives have been undertaken in Bhilai Steel Plant in the last few months, which I have noticed, are yielding results,” said Anshu Vaish, Independent Director SAIL, addressing members of the Bhilai Steel Plant collective consisting largely of women executives attending the 5th in the series of Navoday lectures at the Multipurpose Hall of Bhilai Niwas on Thursday.
Speaking on the topic “Challenges & Opportunities for Women & Leadership,” Vaish easily bonded with the audience comprising largely of women officers and employees. She further said that for women in leadership position, work is part of their lives. They have to strive harder to prove themselves. She urged the audience to dwell on how they can make the world a better place. She urged them to remember all those who have helped them to make it to the position in which they are.
Her advise to the audience largely comprising of young women executives included -“be particular about time management since your are the ones who have to juggle time between your work and the family. This you can also achieve by using and applying technology. There is no mantra like hard work, but, carve out some ‘Me Time’ during the day, no matter how busy you are and very importantly, get help from people who matter most in your life. Her final word of advice – “take your work seriously, but don’t take yourselves too seriously”.
Navoday is a series of lectures under the banner of ‘Rising Bhilai – Towards 7 MT” for employees of Bhilai Steel Plant to learn from inspirational leaders from Business, Science, Technology, Education, Arts and other fields. The initiative inspired by AK Rath, CEO is aimed especially at young executives to stay positive and focused in face of adversities. Navoday seeks to challenge assumptions, promote self-belief and foster a positive attitude and drive in young leaders to be the best one can possibly be.
In his welcome address, AK Rath, CEO said this is a time for transition and transformation for Bhilai Steel Plant. It is also the time to take the great leap forward towards 7 MT. Individual contributions that we make leads to realisation of organisational goals, he said. He later felicitated Anshu Vaish and presented her with a memento.
Present on the occasion were PK Dash, ED (Works), BP Nayak, ED (F&A), SK Basar, ED (MM), Dr SK Issar, Director I/c (M&HS), KK Singh, ED (P&A), Mr Bhatta, GM I/c (Projects) senior officers and employees. At the conclusion, Ms Harshal Agrawal proposed the vote of thanks. Bonia Mukherjee conducted the proceedings. The programme was organized by the Business Excellence Department.
Earlier in the day, Vaish visited Ethics Park, where she planted a sapling. Later she visited Universal Rail Mill where she witnessed the process of loading of world’s longest rails. Vaish also visited Safety Excellence Centre inside the Plant.
At the outset, early bird prizes for participation in Bhilai Steel Plant’s Innovation Portal, named Bhilai Risers were given away by Anshu Vaish to Vishal Gupta, DGM, Anish Sengupta, DGM, Rahul Shrivastav, DGM, DK Sahu, Sr Mgr and Arvind Saha, Asst Mgr – all from Universal Rail Mill. Bhilai Risers portal was launched recently as a platform for employees to participate and come up with innovative solutions for technical problems being faced by the Plant. Teams providing implementable, cost effective solutions are to be rewarded.
