Custodial death: Jogi demands compensation of Rs 1 crore

Raipur: Former Chief Minister and Janta Congress Chhattisgarh Supremo Ajit Jogi today demanded compensation of Rs 1 crore to the family of person who died in police custody in Gariaband Police Station.

Jogi also demanded to register case under Sections 302 and 307 against police personnel responsible for custodial death. Talking to the reporters here today Jogi alleged that while deaths were occurring in police custody for the last six months in the state no action was being taken against policemen responsible for such deaths.

So much so that the families of the deceased were not being given compensation, he alleged. Jogi said that Changorabhatha Raipur resident Sunil Srivas died in police custody in Panduka Police Station of Gariaband district. Deceased’s mother Usha Bhai Srivas in a letter sought justice, he said adding that incidents of custodial death were earlier pouring in from Sarguja, Surajpur, Mungeli, Marwahi, Kawardha and other places.
