UP Assembly Elections: Filing process for 1st phase ends, EC provides online nominations facility; BJP fields Aditi Singh from Rae Bareli seat

In Uttar Pradesh, the process of filing of nominations for the first phase of Assembly Elections ended yesterday. A total of 815 candidates have filed the nomination papers in the first phase. Four hundred twenty-six candidates filed the nomination on the last day. In this phase, 58 Assembly Constituencies will go to polls on 10th of February.  The process of filing nominations for the Second Phase of Assembly Elections began yesterday. 10 candidates filed the nomination papers in the second phase so far. Polling for this phase will be held on 14th of February in 55 Assembly Constituencies.

Meanwhile, BJP released another list of 85 candidates for the ensuing assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh yesterday. The Party has fielded Aditi Singh from Rae Bareli Assembly seat while  Nitin Aggarwal will contest from Hardoi seat, Asim Arun from Kannauj, Jaiveer Singh from Mainpuri seat, and Sarita Bhadauriya will contest from Etawah Assembly seat in the State. The names of the candidates were finalized by the BJP Central Election Committee.

AIR correspondent reports, In the first phase, the polling will be held in 58 assembly constituencies of 11 districts- Shamli, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Bagpat, Hapur, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahar, Mathura, Agra, and Aligarh.

The Election Commission has provided the facility of filing nominations online due to the increase in Covid19 cases in the state. This facilitated the candidates to a great extent.

Moreover, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s national president JP Nadda launched the party’s door to door campaign in Agra yesterday where the polling will be held in the first phase. He also held a meeting with party office bearers of 40 assembly constituencies of Braj region.

In another event in Lucknow, BJP launched the party’s election song ‘UP Fir Mange Bhajpa Sarkar’ in the presence of Union Minister and party leader Anurag Singh Thakur and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Besides, the Aam Aadmi Party released its third list of 33 candidates. The party also announced its 15 star campaigners for UP elections including the party’s national convener and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and the party’s CM candidate for Punjab Bhagwant Maan.
