Unique rakhis made of bamboo and cow dung to hit market this year

Women of Self Help group are making beautiful and attractive rakhis for Rakshabandhan

Raipur, Jul 11: This year unique rakhi’s made of bamboo and cow dung will decorate the wrist of brothers on the occasion of Rakshabandhan, a symbol of love and faith of siblings in Chhattisgarh. The women of self-help groups of Dhamtari district are preparing these beautiful and attractive rakhis and ready to hit the market this year.
This is the first time that women are manufacturing attractive rakhis on a large scale in a new way for brothers. The Chief Minister of the state Bhupesh Baghel has also appreciated them. Encouraged by the Chief Minister’s praise, women are making four types of rakhis on a large scale. These rakhis are being prepared under the name ‘Adya Bandhan’. These include making rakhi for children, bamboo and cow dung rakhi and kumkum-akshat bandhan rakhi for ‘bhaiya-bhabhi’. These rakhis will be sold in the market at a price of Rs 20 to Rs 200.
District Panchayat CEO Mrs Namrata Gandhi informed that on the instructions of Collector Jayaprakash Maurya, under the ‘Bihan’ scheme of National Rural Livelihood Mission, a training program was organised to teach women how to make Rakhi at the Multi-Utility Center at Chaati village in the district. In addition to the Chaati, 165 women from a total of 20 groups of Chhuli of Nagri development block and Nari village of Kurud have started manufacturing rakhi. These groups have so far received orders for 1200 numbers. The speciality of these rakhis is that the rakhi of the children is being made from embroidery threads of Croatia, which is named as OJ rakhi. It includes beautiful artifacts like soft eraser, sharpener, key-chain, Chota Bheem, Ganesha and Santa Clause. Considering the environmental safety, the rakhis are being made from bamboo seeds. Kumkum-Akshat and bamboo pair Rakhi are being made to strengthen the relationship of brother-sister as well as sister-in-law. Bamboo handmade rakhi, seed rakhi, sister-in-law rakhi and innovative rakhis of children have started getting good response from the people. This will definitely increase the confidence of women and will lead to self-reliance.
