Two members of inter-state fraud gang arrested in Delhi

Raipur, Feb 2: Chhattisgarh police have arrested two members of inter-state fraud gang in Delhi for allegedly duping retired officers and employees of lakhs of rupees in the name of paying the amount of Employees Group Insurance. The action has been taken against them on the basis of a complaint lodged by Gyan Singh Sahu with Gudiyari Police Station. Complainant said that after retiring from the post of Chief Manager SBI on 30 June 2006 he is residing in Shukrawari Bazar area of Gudiyari Raipur.
He said that he received calls on his mobile from three callers namely Rohan Singh Gaharwal, Rajendra Prasad Tiwari and RD Sethi who claimed to be officers of Employees Provident Fund, New Delhi. The trio called the complainant from mobile numbers 9540224735, 9891567145, 9540301251 offering to pay Employees Group Insurance amount of Rs 13,02,800 and told him to deposit total Rs 2,58,398 in installments in separate bank accounts to get the insured sum. When he realized that he was duped of Rs 2,58,398 he lodged complaint with Police. The police have registered case under Section 420, 34 of IPC against frauds. The arrested members of fraud gang- 24-year old Dharmendra Kumar Mahto and 30-year old Prem Kumar Sao are residents of Chhapra Bihar.
Police said that they opened a high-tech call centre in Delhi to cheat people. In order to hide their identity they do not talk to local persons or meet them. In their attempt to cheat people they use different names and mobile numbers. Police have recovered total 13 debit cards, 7 cheque books, adhaar cards, pan cards, 5 mobile phones, identity cards, 1 swipe machine, 1 diary and cash of Rs 100000 from their possession. After their arrest both the members of fraud gang have been brought from Delhi to Raipur on transit remand. During interrogation they confessed duping people across the country of lakhs of rupees so far.
