Two ganja peddlers arrested; 50 kg contraband seized

Arang police on Friday arrested two ganja peddlers and seized from them 50 kg contraband which they were illegally transporting to some place in Madhya Pradesh from Gajpati district in Odisha via Raipur. The market value of seized contraband is reported to be around Rs 5 lakh.
According to police, Raipur police got a tip-off late on Friday afternoon that a car bearing registration number PM40-CA-0337 is heading towards Raipur carrying a huge consignment of ganja. Following this information, Raipur DIG & SSP Dr Ajay Yadav immediately instructed his subordinates to intercept the vehicle and seize the contraband along with arresting those involved in the smuggling.
Acting on his directives, ASP (Rural) immediately coordinated with Arang police station and a barricading was raised at Rasni toll plaza on the NH. Late in the evening, the particular approached the barricading point and was immediately forced to stop.
Both the occupants identified themselves as Chediraj Vardhan of Raigada district in Odisha and Rai Baria Rait of Gajpati district in Odisha. They, however, desperately tried to mislead police about the contents of the four sacks that were kept in the vehicle’s dickey. Ultimately police opened one of them and it led to the recovery of ganja neatly packed concealed within plastic sheets. All four sacks were immediately seized and they were later weighed to total 50 kg.
Hereafter, both the peddlers were taken to the police station where they were booked under Section 20B of NDPS Act and further investigation in this regard is now underway.
