Two arrested for attempting theft at Canara Bank in Kumhari

Bhilai, Dec 02: With the arrest of two ruffians including a juvenile, police claimed to have solved the case of attempted theft at the Kumhari Branch of Canara Bank. The accused conducted recce and had made a proper plan to commit theft but had failed in their attempt. The team of Kumhari and Khursipar Police Stations scanned the CCTV footage of about 100 places and finally trapped the accused. Addressing media persons here at Police Control Room on Thursday, ASP (City) Sanjay Dhruw informed that on the instructions of SSP (Durg) Badri Narayan Meena, teams led by Inspector Uttar Kumar Verma (SHO, Kumhari) and Inspector Durgesh Sharma (SHO, Khursipar) were constituted to investigate the matter. Unidentified ruffians had attempted theft at the Kumhari Branch of Canara Bank on the intervening night of November 29. Dog Squad was pressed into service after which suspects were questioned. The network of informers was activated and CCTV footages were examined.
Acting on a tip off, police arrested a 22-year-old youth and a juvenile. During interrogation, they confessed to have committed the crime. The accused is a vehicle mechanic and disclosed that he needed money for opening a vehicle repair shop of his own. While having tea at a kiosk behind the bank premises, he spotted the ventilation structure of the building and chalked out the plan of committing theft. They executed the plan at around 02:00 hrs on the intervening night of November 29 and entered the bank building from the ventilator. They tried to break the locker but failed in their attempt. They escaped from the same route and threw the iron rod, used in the crime, near Bhawani Petrol Pump. Police have booked the accused Vikram Jaal (22) and a juvenile under section 457, 380, 511, 34 of IPC.
