Three Sadhus beaten up on suspicion of being child-lifters

Bhilai, Oct 06: On suspicion of being child-lifters, three Sadhus were beaten up by a mob in Charoda Basti area of Old Bhilai Police Station limits on Wednesday evening. Cops rescued the Sadhus and took them to a hospital for medical examination. Old Bhilai Police Station lodged an FIR and arrested five persons for thrashing the Sadhus. The victims hail from Alwar in Rajasthan and were presently staying in a rented house in Charoda for the last several months. On the other hand, leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party have condemned this incident and have attacked the Congress State Government.

SP Dr Abhishek Pallava informed that three persons dressed as Sadhus were thrashed by a mob on rumours of child-lifting in Charoda Basti under Bhilai-3 Police Station limits. An FIR has been lodged under sections 259, 506, 323, 147 of IPC. About 30 persons have been interrogated. On the basis of the video footage, police arrested five accused including Satya Narayan Chahdhari, Mool Chand Nishad, Yashwant Sahu, Satyendra Kumar Mahto and Bhupesh Kumar Verma for thrashing the Sadhus. The victims are identified as Rajbir Singh, Aman Singh and Shyam Singh of Alwar, Rajasthan. They have sustained superficial injuries and have been discharged from hospital after first aid. SP Dr Pallava appealed to all citizens not to over-react on rumours of child-lifting and do not take law into their own hands. As the investigation team did not find any suspicious activity on the part of sadhus, they were released.

Rajya Sabha MP Saroj Pandey condemned the brutal incident that occurred with Sadhus. She questioned that one can imagine the situation of law and order in the state when such incidents are happening in the home district of the Chief Minister and Home Minister. She suggested the Congress leaders do some work instead of making rhetorical statements. Former Cabinet Minister Rajesh Munat tweeted that there is no control over criminals. The home district of CM is disturbed due to fear and grief. Other BJP leaders also condemned this incident.
