Three arrested with cannabis worth Rs One Lakh

Bhilai, Feb 12: Police have arrested three ruffians on charges of smuggling the banned narcotics. The accused were caught in New Bus Stand Durg when they were looking for customers for the smuggled cannabis. They were arrested during a routine checking drive which was being conducted on directives of Superintendent of Police regarding checking of visitors.

It needs to be mentioned here that on directives of Inspector General of Police (Durg Range) Vivekananda Sinha, Superintendent of Police Prashant Thakur, Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Rohit Jha and City Superintendent of Police (Durg) Vivek Shukla, a de-addiction campaign “Jio Khulkar” is being carried out in the district. Under this campaign, the common people are being urged to stay away from drugs and other intoxicants as well as support the police in its campaign against the illegal trade and smuggling of drugs, liquor and other intoxicants. Inspector Rajesh Bagade informed that they are continuously maintaining vigil on the activities of visitors of other districts at the bus stands. Cops maintain records of the visitors and check their identity also. In this sequel, three suspects were spotted at Bus Stand of Durg. On checking, police recovered 12 kgs of cannabis worth Rs One Lakh from their possession. The accused are identified as Srinu Sisa (21) son of Nasim Sisa a resident of village Khodra, PS Manglipura, District Malkangiri (Orissa); Arjuna Sisa (20) son of late Sannyasi a resident of Mundaripura, District Malkangiri (Orissa) and Mahendra Gupta (32) son of Moolchand Gupta a resident of village Girwar, Hamirpur (UP).

Police seized the cannabis and action was taken against the accused by following all the provisions of the Narcotics Act. Sub Inspector Pramod Shrivastava, Constable BalmukundSahu, Asif Khan Sunil Soni, Kishore Soni, Ganesh, Sachin Singh, Nayak Teeka Ram Sahu and others played important role in arresting the accused.
