Third installment of arrears to govt employees soon

Raipur, Mar 21: The Chhattisgarh government has taken a decision to release the third installment of balance arrears of the government employees under the 7th Pay Commission from 1 July 2016 to 30 Sep 2016. This is estimated to put an additional burden of Rs 360 crore on government exchequer. This will be benefitting around 1.81 lakh government employees. It is in order to boost up the state’s economic activities affected due to Covid-19 pandemic that CM Bhupesh Baghel has taken this decision and issued necessary instructions. It is notable here that the benefits under the Chhattisgarh Pay Revision Act 2017 (7th Pay Commission) to government servants in state was brought into effect from 1 Jan 2016 and payment was started from 1 July 2017. A decision has been taken to release the 18 month long arrears amount from 1 Jan 2016 to 30 June 2017 in six installments. The state government released the first installment of Rs 344 cr worth of arrears amount from 1 Jan 2016 to 31 March2016 on 8 Aug 2018 and second installment of Rs 356 cr that of 1 April 2016 to 30 June 2016 was made on 4 Oct 2019. In this way the first and second installment worth Rs 700 crore has been made to 1.81 lakh government employees of the state government.
Due to effect of Covid-19 the economic activities in the state were badly affected and in view of curtailment of expenditure by the state government that third installment of arrears could not be paid.
