
Raipur, Oct 06: Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey held a meeting of the Vice-Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University Raipur and Kamdhenu University, Anjora, Durg and Special Duty Officer of Mahatma Gandhi and Horticulture University at Shivnath Bhawan in Nava Raipur. The Agriculture Minister directed to start the process of admission of eligible students for graduate education in the current academic session at Mahatma Gandhi Horticulture University in Sankra, Durg district. The Agriculture Minister also directed to hand over the responsibility of the university to some nurseries of the horticulture department located in different districts of the state to start the activities of Horticulture University promptly. Parliamentary Secretary Ms. Shakuntala Sahu and Agriculture Production Commissioner Dr. M. Geeta were also present in the meeting.
Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey said that Chhattisgarh is an agricultural state. Development of agriculture is the development of Chhattisgarh. He stressed on the extension of agro-based activities including agriculture, horticulture, food processing in the rural areas of the state to the universities and said that its benefits should be seen by the farmers of the state.
The Agriculture Minister instructed the universities to ensure effective action by making an action plan towards making the state self-sufficient in the matter of seed production. It was said that farmers should be given necessary advice and information about the use of medicines for prevention of insecticide outbreaks in Kharif crops. The Agriculture Minister also said that necessary measures should be taken to check the quality of pesticide drugs being sold by private shopkeepers in the state for prevention of crop insecticide.
