Societies responsible for safety of paddy kept in procurement centers

Raipur, Mar 12: Food and Civil Supplies Minister Amarjit Bhagat reviewed status of district-wise custom milling at a virtual meeting of the state food officers here . According to Bhagat the societies and the concerned officials have full responsibility for the safety of the paddy kept in the procurement centers. He directed all the food officers of the districts to take necessary measures to cover the paddy kept in the procurement centers to save it from untimely rains. Bhagat told to expedite the work of lifting paddy and strictly follow the instructions given regarding custom milling.
Bhagat said during the review of custom milling in Raipur district that strict action should be taken against the mills that do not lift the paddy. Secretary, Food Department, Dr Kamalpreet Singh said that 61.43 lakh metric tonnes of paddy out of total quantity of paddy procured, have been lifted from the societies. He said that 20.38 lakh metric tonnes of rice have been deposited in lieu of custom milling.
Officials of Bilaspur, Bastar, Kanker, Kondagaon, Surguja, Surajpur, Balrampur and Jashpur districts informed the minister that apart from custom milling, the work of depositing rice is smoothly underway and the custom milling work will be completed in a few months. Bhagat also inquired from the officials regarding the storage and distribution of sugar, jaggery, fortified rice, food grains, etc. being distributed under the public distribution system in the state. Special Secretary of Food Department, Manoj Kumar Soni, Managing Director of Civil Supplies Corporation. Niranjan Das, MD MARKFED Ankit Anand and other senior officers of Food Department were present at the
meeting.
