Save river Kharun campaign begins

In a bid to bring awareness among people for the need to protect rivers, a Save River Kharun campaign has been started. The two day campaign to mark the upcoming World Environment Day began on June 03 with a 30 km cycle rally from Village Amleshwar with the final destination being Kesra while on the second day a 5 km walk was organised from Kesra to Kauhi. On the first day the rally was flagged off from Amleshwar at 05:30 hrs and the cyclists reached Kesra after passing through villages such as Motipur, Sikola Jheet villages. With every village the cyclists crossing number of participants increased and were welcomed enthusiastically. When the rally finally reached Kesra, the number of people was much more than at the start of the rally.
On second day, June 04, the 5 km long padyatra that began from Kesra also had a number of environment lovers collected at the scheduled time in the morning. After collecting, they took pledge to protect Kharun river and then walked all the way to Kauhi. There they spoke to the villagers about the need to protect the river.
Forest Officer Dhammsheel informed that the enthusiasm of the people in the cycle rally and promenade was unprecedented. People joined in every village. All the while the people were made aware of the fact that river Kharun is the lifeline of the district. The more it is protected the more useful it will be to us. The villagers also encouraged the organizers. Participants from Durg and Raipur in the cycle rally.
