Rs 60000 swindled through cloned ATM card

Raipur: In a probable of ATM cloning, unidentified fraud duped a bank customer of Rs 60000 by fraudulently transferring Rs 40000 into another bank account and then withdrawing Rs 20000 cash in two transactions.

A complaint in this regard was lodged in Kabir Nagar police station on Saturday night following which police have launched an investigation into the swindling. According to police, complainant Prakash Tiwari of Kabir Nagar holds a saving bank account maintained with State Bank of India’s Gole Chowk branch at Kabir Nagar.

On the intervening night of Friday- Saturday, Tiwari received a message regarding transfer of Rs 40000 into an unidentified bank account from his bank account. While he had missed that SMS due to sleeping in the night, he was stunned to receive two more SMS on Saturday morning about ATM withdrawal of Rs 10000 each.

Since all banks were closed for the day on account of second Saturday, Tiwari called the bank’s customer care service to know about the SMS he had received despite not doing any of the transactions. Following advice of the customer care, he then blocked further transaction through his ATM card and lodged a complaint in Kabir Nagar police station with regards to the duping. Police have since registered an offence under Section 420 IPC against unidentified fraud and is now investigating the matter further.
