Raipur police seize 1000 kg ganja worth Rs 1.30 crore; 6 smugglers arrested

In a major action against illegal narcotics transportation via Raipur, the capital police on Thursday intercepted a truck and a car and seized from them 1000 kg ganja worth Rs 1.30 crore. Police also succeeded in arresting all six smugglers from both those vehicles.
According to police, a tip off was received at Raipur SSP office earlier on Thursday that a truck bearing registration number CG04-DF-6177 is heading towards the capital carrying a huge consignment of ganja and a white coloured Maruti Swift car bearing registration number OD10-H-0714 is piloting it as a security cover. It was also informed that the truck will be entering to Raipur limits from Abhanpur.
Following this information, Raipur DIG & SSP Arif H Shaikh immediately alerted his subordinates and a massive barricading was erected on the Doomartarai-Mana Road.
In the late afternoon, both the vehicles approached the barricading point where they were immediately surrounded and all six occupants of those two vehicles were taken into custody. Later police seized a total of 1000 kg contraband from both the vehicles.
Both the vehicles were instantly impounded and all six accused were brought to Mana police station where they were identified as Vijay Kawasi, Sondhar Sira, Suraj Das, Nazeem Khan, Sarora Prasad and Abdul Gaffar, all residents of various districts in Odisha.
Police have since booked all six under Section 20B of NDPS Act and is now interrogating them further the source of procuring the contraband and its destination.
