Rains continue to lash city causing water-logging

Raipur: Incessant rains continued to lash Raipur city for second consecutive day on Monday inundating low-lying areas and affecting normal life to some extent. Raipur city and other parts of the district have been experiencing intermittent showers since yesterday.

In many parts of the city, overflowing drain water is spilling over the roads. According to information available incessant rains are lashing the state for the last 24 hours.While most parts of Bastar division has been inundated due to heavy rains, Sarguja, Raipur and Durg divisions received good rainfalls. An average 269.9 mm rainfall has been recorded in Raipur district so far since June 1.

According to information received from land record wing of Collectorate, Raipur tehsil received 222.8 mm rain whereas Arang received 458.6 mm rain. Similarly Abhanpur tehsil received 205.0 mm rain and Tilda received 189.2 mm rain. Monsoon is vigorous in the state with monsoon trough at mean sea level passing through Jaisalmer, Bhilwara, Sidhi Daltanganj, Jamshedpur, Digha and thence southwards to east central Bay of Bengal.

According to Indian Meteorological Department, light to medium rainfalls have been recorded at several places in the state. Heavy rainfalls occurred at many places in Bastar division, it said.

Meanwhile IMD has issued red, orange and yellow alert for the next few days. The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Chhattisgarh during the next few days. It also forecast generally cloudy weather with few spells of rain or thundershower in Raipur during.
