Raipur, Oct 08: Drawing attention of senior Congress leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi towards rape incidents in Chhattisgarh the Bharatiya Janata Party National Vice President and former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Dr Raman Singh today said 1500 incidents of rape took place in the state during the last nine months. Both Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi should also take note of such incidents in Chhattisgarh as they did in other states, he said.

Seven youth allegedly raped the girl on July 19 and upset over police inaction on her complaint the victim resorted to committing suicide, Dr Singh said and described this incident as shameful.
He said that on the night of the incident, the victim had stayed at her aunt’s house and complaint was lodged with police next day. But SHO covered up the matter by taking money from the accused; he alleged and said that deeply upset over police inaction the victim committed suicide next day. When no arrest was made two months after the incident victim’s father tried to commit suicide by consuming poison and demanded euthanasia, Dr Singh said.
Demanding strict action against policemen involved in covering up the matter by taking money. Officers who did not take cognizance of the complaint should also not be spared, he said. Apart from Rahul and Priyanka, the Chief Minister should take note of the matter to see why such incidents are not being checked effectively, Dr Singh added.
