
Bhilai, Oct 10: Bhilai Municipal Corporation is going to spend almost 160 lakhs for construction of pukka drains in Soniya Gandhi Nagar, Panchasheel Nagar, Subhash Nagar, Oriya Basti and adjoining areas. This project has been approved with the aim of preventing water logging in these areas. On Saturday, MLA & Mayor Devendra Yadav accompanied by Alderman Sunil Goyal, Councilor Martand Singh Manhar, Arun Rai and D Kamraju inspected the areas. Mayor interacted with the locals and tried to assess the ground reality. He instructed the officers to complete the departmental process for channelization works of teh drains. Zone Commissioner Amitabh Sharma informed the Mayor that the tender has already been processed. Complaints of water-logging were received during the rainy days in Sonia Gandhi Nagar. For many years, people have been demanding construction of pukka drainage. Mayor Devendra Yadav has approved the funds after taking cognizance of the matter. Bhoomipujan of the drain channelization has been already done by the Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
It needs to be mentioned here that the problem of water-logging was reported from the areas including Power House Bus Stand and Railway Station, Sonia Gandhi Nagar, Chandrashekhar Azad Ward, Panchsheel Nagar and Subhash Nagar. Drain passing through these areas joins the main Telha Nullah. Channelization work of this entire drain will be done under this project. This project is expected to eliminate the problem of water logging.
Channelization of the drain in will be conducted in behind Ward 29, to Ramatai School, Industrial Area to Balaji Nagar. Block President D Kamaraju, Alderman Sunil Goyal, Raja Dewangan, B Suraj, Zone Commissioner Amitabh Sharma, Assistant Engineer Akhilesh Chandrakar and Deputy Engineer Prakriti Jagtaap were present.
