Price of petrol, diesel to go up by Rs 2.25 per litre from today

VAT relaxation scrapped

Raipur: Chhattisgarh Government on Wednesday has withdrawn the concession of 4% on VAT on diesel and petrol in Chhattisgarh. With the above decision, the price of petrol and diesel would be increased by Rs 2.25 per litre from August 8 onwards.

It is notable that Government of India (GoI) had reduced the price of petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per litres in October 2018 which was followed with the notification of Chhattisgarh Government on October 5th, 2018 to further reduce the price of petroleum products by reducing VAT from prevailing rate of 25% to 21% which was effective till March 31, 2018 and further extended till March 2020.

However with the Chhattisgarh government requiring revenue boost, the decision to end the relaxation of VAT from 25% to 21% was made which would again increase the price of petroleum products by nearly Rs 2.25 per litre. In support to the decision, the Chhattisgarh Government stated that the GoI has already increased the price of petroleum products by Rs 2 per litre and central tax is already high in comparison to the VAT, the relaxation of 4% VAT has been ended. With the above decision, the price of petrol and diesel would be increased by nearly Rs 2.25 from August 8.
