Power Generation begins from TRT of Blast furnace-8

Bhilai, Jun 04: Blast Furnace-8 of Bhilai Steel Plant is constructed on Zero Waste Technology model. Under this model, all the materials generated during production from BF-8, will get utilized and waste generation will be zero. During the testing & trials for commissioning on June 01, 2019, Power generation had started from the Top Recovery Turbine (TRT) unit of BF-8. This unit utilizes the gas-pressure created in BF-8 and generates power of capacity around 14 MW. This unit is under commissioning with the help of M/s Paul Wurth-Italy, M/s Paul Wurth-India and M/s L&T along with Japanese & Chinese technicians. During the 1st phase of testing & trials for commissioning of TRT, 4.2 MW power was generated. Out of the total requirement of power for running BF 8, around 14 MW power is planned to be generated from this TRT unit.
The testing & trials for commissioning of TRT unit was carried out by Projects-Blast Furnace zone with the help of PBS-2, PSD, ETL, Instrumentation, Projects-Power zone and BF-8. This work was taken up by Devendra Srivastava, DGM I/c (P-BF zone) and his team along with significant contributions from Dalbir Singh, DGM I/c (PBS-2), PK Basu, DGM I/c (PSD), A Shankar, DGM (ETL), TD Venkataraman, DGM (P-Power zone) and Simi Goswami, DGM (Instrumentation).
The commissioning activities of TRT unit were started in the presence of SK Mehta, GM (P-Utility & Steel) and T Dasgupta, GM (BF-8).
