Bhilai, Oct 18: With the arrest of five ruffians including a juvenile, police claimed to have foiled a dacoity bid at the branch of a nationalised bank. All the accused have previous records of serious offences. A pistol of 7.65 mm bore, 09 live cartridges, 02 empty cartridges, two buttoned knives, and a cutter were seized from their possession. Police also recovered a rope, chili powder, pistol lighter, black spray and iron digging bar from them.
Addressing media persons here at Police Control Room on Monday, ASP (City) Sanjay Dhruw and CSP (Old Bhilai) Vishwas Chandrakar informed that under the guidance of Senior Superintendent of Police (Durg) Badri Narayan Meena (IPS), Durg Police is maintaining strict vigil on the activities of suspects and criminal record holders.
Strict action is also being taken against criminal elements for crime prevention. Along with this, continuous emphasis is being given on community policing. The efforts bore fruitful results when cops received a tip off regarding the presence of 4 to 5 suspicious people in Dadar area of Old Bhilai Police Station. They were sitting beneath a water tank near the liquor shop and were reportedly preparing to commit dacoity at a nearby bank.
Old Bhilai Team appraised the senior officers about the tip off. On instructions of senior officers, three separate teams were constituted for verification of the information and thereafter conducting the raid. Five persons were rounded up from the spot and on searching, police recovered a Pistol, live cartridges, button knife, iron cutter, iron digging bar, chilli powder, black spray, etc from them.
During interrogation, the accused disclosed that they were making a plan to commit robbery in UCO Bank premises located in Charoda. Police lodged an offence against them under section 399 of IPC and section 25, 27 of Arms Act. They were produced before the court and have been sent to jail on judicial remand.
The accused are identified as Nitin alias Bunty Dahariya, Rocky alias Nanka alias Anshu Singh alias Vivek Singh, Ankesh Brahmankar, Dantesh Rao alias Rishi Rao and a juvenile. Old Bhilai Police succeeded in preventing a major crime with the appreciable efforts of Inspector Vinay Singh Baghel (SHO, Old Bhilai), ASI Rajesh Pandey, Constable Rakesh Singh, Sandeep Singh, Krishna Singh, Vijay Singh and GRP Chowki in-charge ASI Mahendra Pandey, Constable Vishnu and Beduram Jangde.
