Police busts gang of notorious looters

Bhilai, Aug 05: With the arrest of four ruffians, police claimed to have busted a gang of notorious looters which was involved in almost seventeen different incidents of loots and thefts. Two other members of the gang are still at large. The accused targeted the people including truck drivers during night hours. They mostly committed the crimes on National Highway and limits of five police stations of the district. Police have recovered looted booty including 12 nos expensive mobile phones, a stolen scooter and two other vehicles from the possession of the accused.
While addressing media persons here at Police Control Room, ASP (City) Sanjay Dhruw informed that considering the rising number of loot and theft incidents, SP Prashant Agrawal had directed to conduct intensive investigations and trap the perpetrators of crime. On his instructions, a joint team of Khursipar, Supela, Vaishali Nagar, Jamul and Chhawani Police Station was constituted which conducted investigations under the leadership of Inspector Vishal Sone (SHO, Chhawani). The team collected information from the victims and the CCTV footages of the crime scenes were examined. The network of informers was activated to collect information about the suspects. In this sequel, police received a tip off regarding a suspect who was trying to sell a mobile phone in Baikunthdham area. Police team immediately swung into action and the suspect Sunil Sahu was taken in custody. During sustained interrogation, he confessed involvement in the loot incidents and disclosed that Bobby Naikar, Deepak Naikar, Suraj Verma and Suraj alias Goldie were his accomplices. On the basis of his statement, police succeeded in arresting Suraj Verma, Bobby Naikar and Prabhat Kumar. They confessed to have committed loots in Chhawani, Supela, Khursipar, Vaishali nagar and Jamul areas. Police recovered 12 nos looted mobile phones, a stolen Honda Activa Scooter (CG07-LG-8796) and two bikes which were used in the crime. Detailing about the modus operandi, ASP (City) Sanjay Dhruw informed that the accused to gather for a meeting after sunset to chalk out the plan of loot and fix the spot. They even decided that who will ride the vehicle and who will snatch the mobile phone from the target. They targeted the pedestrians as well as truck drivers in lonely places. They snatched / looted the mobile phones and if the victim resisted, they attacked with rod, sticks or blade. The accused Prabhat Kumar of Ramnagar used to help them in unlocking the looted mobile phones. The arrested accused are Sunil Sahu (23) son of Moolchand Sahu a resident of Wambay Awas, Jawahar Nagar; Suraj Verma (19) son of Dhannelal Verma a resident of Wambay Awas, Jawahar Nagar; Bobby Naikar (22) son of Late Mohan Naikar a resident of 32 Acre Atal Awas Colony; and Prabhat Kumar (26) son of Sadhusant Teli a resident of Ramnagar. Suraj alias Goldie (23) a resident of Karbala Maidan, Chhawani and Deepak Naikar (32) a resident of 32 Acre Atal Awas Colony are at large. Sub Inspector Naresh Kumar Sarwa, Sub Inspector Raiyan Das Gendre, Head Constable Jaspal Singh, Chetan Sahu and civil team members Constable Arvind Mishra, Satyendra Madharia, Rinku Soni and Chhawani Patrolling team – Constable Anil Singh, Vikas Singh, Dharmendra Singh and Jeet Narayan played vital role in busting the gang.
