Patient administered expiry injection reported critical

Raipur, May 05: The health of a patient admitted in AIIMS, Tatibandh has worsened and is reported to be critical due to consumption of expiry medicine from Amrut Pharmacy Medical Stores in the hospital premises. On the other hand, based upon complaint by the family members, medical store has removed two Pharmacists from the shop immediately. The AIIMS administration by forming a team of three doctors has handed over the investigation into the matter to them and is expected to give its report in a week’s time and the necessary action will be taken.
A patient from Odragahan (Patan) of Durg district Prakash Chand Jain was admitted in AIIMS for some problems in the lung last on April 24 and he was undergoing treatment t here. There is a government medical stores in the name of Amrut Pharmacy run on the premises of AIIMS and here generic medicines at low rates are available.
The family members of Jain charged and informed media that they purchased the injection from Amrut Pharmacy for their patient for Rs 500 and they are having its bill with them. The expiry of this injection was Feb 2019 and still it was sold from the medical shop of AIIMS. The family members charged that injections with expiry dates are being sold for last three months and due to which their patient suffered complications.
Son of the patient charged that his father was administered injections of expiry date daily and he came to know about it when an employee of AIIMS informed about it. When the media team reached AIIMS, the administration refused to comment, but later a meeting was held and in this pressure was made to removed the pharmacist from the Medical Stores and at the same time a committee of AIIMS doctors was formed to investigate into the matter.
On the other hand upon carelessness of medical shop, AIIMS administration has formed a team of three doctors to investigate into the matter and the team comprises of Dr Shrimant Das, Dr T Ranganathan and Dr Alok Singh. All the three doctors will present the report within a week. At the same time the Dy. Manager of Amrut Pharmacy has removed two pharmacists from the shop and this include Chitranjan Das and Kiran Gawal. Hospital Superintendent Dr Ajay Dani said that due to sheer carelessness, two Pharmacists have been suspended and a team of three doctors have been formed to conduct inquiry into it.
