Paint to be made from cow dung in Ch’garh

Raipur, Nov 21: Natural paint will also be made from cow dung procured under Godhan Nyay Yojana in Chhattisgarh. For this, preparations are being made to set up plants in the Gouthans (cow-shelters) in the villages. On the proposal of Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Central Khadi and Village Industries Commission and Kumarappa National Paper Institute, Jaipur are ready for transfer of technology. Chhattisgarh State Gou Seva Commission has signed an agreement with these institutions for transfer of technology in presence of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
In the first phase, 75 Gouthans of the state have been selected for setting up natural paint plants, officials said. A unit of natural paint manufacturing cum carboxy methyl cellulose manufacturing will be established in such Gouthans.
The technology of manufacturing natural paint has been developed by Kumarappa National Paper Institute, Jaipur, Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
The main component of natural paint is Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC). About 10 kg of dry CMC is made from 100 kg of cow dung. CMC accounts for 30 percent of the amount of natural paint.
About 30 kg of dry CMC is required to make 500 liters of natural paint.
It was informed that workers, youth and women of self-help groups will also be given training by Kumarappa National Paper Institute, Jaipur for manufacturing of natural paints in Gouthans. Work of manufacturing natural paint from cow dung is being done from July 2021 in similar plant in Jaipur. It was inaugurated by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
The state government has started the Godhan Nyay Yojana from July 2020. Under this, it procures cow dung at the rate of Rs 2 per kg through Gouthans.
Approval has been given for the construction of 10 thousand 538 Gouthans in the state. Out of which 7 thousand 714 Gouthans have been set up so far. One lakh 85 thousand 320 cattle rearers are associated with active Gouthans. The government has paid Rs 104 crore for cow dung till September. Compost is made from cow dung.
