Our ancestors have also contributed significantly in the Goa Liberation Movement: CM

Raipur, Dec 18: Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has said that our forefathers have also contributed significantly in the Goa liberation struggle. The way the people of Chhattisgarh contributed in the freedom struggle of the country, in the same way the warriors of Chhattisgarh made a significant contribution in the liberation struggle of Goa.
Baghel paid tribute to the ‘satyagrahis’ of Chhattisgarh who participated in the Goa Liberation Struggle, remembering the struggle and sacrifices they made, in the program organised under the Amrit Mahotsav being celebrated across the country as part of the 75th anniversary of independence, at his residence office here on Wednesday. He also felicitated the families of Satyagrahis of Chhattisgarh in this function organised by the Department of Culture. Mr. Baghel further said that Veer Shivaji and Sambhaji made efforts to drive the Portuguese out of Goa. The ancestors of Chhattisgarh also gave their participation with the people of the country for the liberation of Goa. A team of about 150 Satyagrahis went to Goa. Thakur Harinarayan Singh, Nand Kumar Pathak, Moses Moolchand, Sharad Kumar Raizada, Balaram Joshi, Hari Prasad Sharma and Gandhi Ram Sahu were the frontline leaders in this team. Later on the number of Satyagrahis reached 530. The Satyagrahis in Goa not only suffered atrocities and tortures of the Portuguese, but also gave arrests. Finally the 450 years of Portuguese rule came to an end. The Chief Minister assured the Satyagrahis of Chhattisgarh, who participated in the Goa Liberation Struggle, to take necessary initiative by examining the demand for grant of ‘Samman Nidhi’ and allotment of land to such Satyagrahis who are not getting Central ‘Samman Nidhi’. Culture Minister Amarjeet Bhagat said on this occasion that it is a matter of pride for all of us that the Satyagrahis of Chhattisgarh participated in the Goa Liberation Struggle. It is inspiring for us to go so far from Chhattisgarh and fight for the independence of Goa.
