Online fraud dupes account holder of Rs 43788

Raipur: Unidentified fraud has duped an elderly woman of Rs 43788 by making online payment of the same amount from her bank saving account. The fraud came to light when the victim got her passbook updated recently.

A complaint with regards to the fraud has since been lodged in Amanaka police station. According to police, complainant Urmila Bai Makinpuri (62) is a widow and holds a saving bank account with Tatibandh branch of Dena Bank. On Saturday she got her passbook updated from the bank which revealed that Rs 43788 has been deducted from her account on Friday evening for making payment against an online purchase of the same amount.

Since the victim is not that literate to operate online banking, it was a strange revelation to the bank officials as well but then they were helpless and they could simply advise her to go to police station and lodge a complaint. Accordingly, Urmila Bai reached Amanaka police station and lodged a complaint with regards to the fraud following which police have registered an offence under Section 420 IPC against unidentified fraud and is now investigating the matter further.
