Odisha team wins ‘A’ Division Hockey National Ch’ship

The state’s international hockey player Mrinal Chouey in 19 years of his hockey career and record was given a major responsibility. In the ‘A’ division Hockey India National Championship held in Raipur from May 1 to 22, the coach manager of Odisha succeeded in getting Gold medal for Odisha by imparting coaching to Odisha team.
In this championship earlier, a 12-day coaching camp was organised in Rourkela and in this Mrinal Choubey acting as the coach of the team prepared them for this championship and as a result of which the team won the Gold medal.
In this championship held in Raipur, the country’s top 20 teams took part and in this Odisha team gave wonderful performance right since beginning and utilised all the tips by the coach Mrinal Choubey and won the Gold medal.
This championship was organised on league cum knock-out system and in this Odisha defeated Andhra Pradesh by 15-0; Namdhari XI by 6-0; Tamil Nadu by 9-0; Punjab was draw by 1-1 and in the quarter finals defeated MP Hockey Academy by 2-1 and in the semi-finals defeated Sports Authority of India by 2-1.
In the interesting final match with UP, both the teams were 2-2 each till the end and in the penalty shoot-out, the Odisha team defeated UP by 3-1 and won the championship. The state government has honoured Mrinal Choubey with ‘Khel Kaushal’ and felicitated him the state’s top honour of ‘Gundadhar Samman’, ‘Shaheed Rajiv Pandey’ samman; Shaheed Kaushal Yadav samman and declared him as the best player of the state. Presently Mrinal Choubey is the captain and goalkeeper of CAG’s team of India.
