No Dahi-Handi celebration on Janmashtami

Raipur, Aug 29: No traditional Dahi Handi festitivies involving human pyramids during Sri Krishna Janmashtami festival would be held in the state for the second consecutive year. The decision to prohibit this grand celebration has been taken in view of COVID pandemic. Sri Krishna Janmastami festival is beginning tomorrow, August 30. Preparations are full swing to celebrate the festival with great pomp. Special tableaux are being prepared in various temples for this occasion. To visit the temples, every devotee will have to stand in line keeping a distance of six feet. Neither Prasad will be distributed nor water will be sprinkled on the devotees. The Additional Collector has issued a 22-point guideline. Meanwhile, the government has taken a big decision regarding this festival. For the first time the sale of liquor has been banned on Janmashtami. An order has also been issued to keep the non-vegetarian shops closed tomorrow.
