Bhilai, Nov 19: A mother and daughter were killed in a road accident which occurred in national highway late evening on Wednesday. They were hit by a speeding car while crossing the road. Police have registered a case against the accused car driver. The vehicle has also been seized.
According to information, the deceased were Mangalin Bai (45) and her daughter Mamta Verma (27), both residents of Bajrangpara, Old Bhilai. At around 21:00 hrs on Wednesday, they were moving towards the hospital as Mamta was not feeling well. While crossing the road, they were hit by a speeding car bearing registration number CG07-MA-7181. Both of them suffered fatal injuries in the mishap and were rushed to the hospital by Policemen. Mangalin was pronounced brought dead while Mamta succumbed to her injuries during treatment at Government Hospital. Police have lodged a case and further legal action is being taken.
Youth held for stalking girl
Bhilai, Nov 19: Taking the cases of crimes against women under serious cognizance, Durg Police are taking immediate action against the accused. In this sequel, Police have arrested a 23-year-old youth who tried to harass and stalk a 19-year-old girl during the Gaura-Gauri procession in the village.
ASP (Rural) Praggya Meshram informed that they received a complaint at Litiya Semariya Chowki from the victim. She complained that the accused followed her during the Gaura-Gauri procession and with the intention of outraging her modesty; he got hold of her hand and harassed her. On the directions of SP Prashant Thakur, the police team led by Inspector Gaurav Tiwari searched the accused and took him in custody. The accused is identified as Daulat Patel (23) son of Chhatrapal Patel a resident of village Deurkona, Litiya Semaria Chowki. He has been booked under the provisions mentioned in section 354 (D) of IPC. He was produced before the court and has been sent to jail.
