Modification carried out in Bearing Shop Crane of Merchant Mill

As in any finishing mill of steel plant, roll assembly plays an important role in operations of SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant’s Merchant Mill. Vital jobs related to roll assembly are carried out on continuous basis at the Mill’s Bearing Shop. Cranes are in regular use to carry out such jobs.
Availability of cranes is affected many a times because of crane operators being busy elsewhere because of which work gets affected. The Crane Brigade of Electrical Section of Merchant Mill came up with a modification that would solve the problem by enabling crane operations from ground level itself. Those working on roll assembly can now operate the crane themselves from ground level in the absence of crane operator. The design for the modification was prepared by Vishnu Prasad, Manager (Electrical) and the same was commissioned with in-house resources by a team led by Shri Prasad himself. Those in the team included Ishwar Kumar Patel, MJ Rao, DK Verma, OP Verma and Aswin Kumar. Ajay Bedi, CGM (Merchant Mill & Wire Rod Mill) inspected the modification carried out and congratulated the Electrical Section team.
