MLA Devendra Yadav meets SAIL Chairman

Bhilai, June 08:
As the problem of yellowish water continues to persist in Township, MLA Devendra Yadav reached Delhi on Tuesday to raise the issue at top level. Devendra has been making efforts at local level but the BSP town administration has not been able to resolve the problem so far. Citizens of Bhilai are suffering due to contaminated water supply for the last two months. The seriousness of the issue can be gauged from the fact that MLA Devendra sought an appointment with SAIL Chairman Soma Mandal in New Delhi late last evening and reached office in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss this issue of public importance.
Devendra submitted a memorandum to the SAIL Chairman regarding the water woes, in which he mentioned that the workers of Bhilai Steel Plant are suffering due to dirty water supply for the last two months. Continuous efforts were made by the officers of Bhilai Steel Plant’s Town Administration, District Administration and Municipal Corporation, but could not succeed in providing clean water.
During discussion, Devendra said that he has been continuously making efforts in this direction but the efforts made by BSP Town Services Department are insufficient. The Filter Plant was established with the construction of BSP Steel Plant, which is more than 50 years old. The water filter plant still operates on the old technology and needs to be modernised completely. As an immediate measure, he insisted on the need of door-to-door water supply with the help of tankers in the township area. He added that alternative arrangements like bore wells can be made along with the existing arrangement. He requested the SAIL Chairman to take immediate cognizance of this matter related to the public interest. SAIL Chairman Soma Mandal also expressed concern on the issue and assured to take prompt action.
Devendra also discussed about the issue of compassionate appointment in Bhilai Steel Plant. He said that the bereaved family members of the employees who died in lines of duty have been waiting for a compassionate appointment for a long time. Devendra has been making efforts to ensure their livelihood along with appropriate compensation. In the past, he had also brought this matter to the notice of Union Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. SAIL Chairman Soma Mandal assured to take positive initiatives.
