Minimata’s contribution towards women empowerment inspiring: CM

“Minimata has made remarkable contribution towards women empowerment, labour welfare and untouchability alleviation. Her role in getting the Untouchability (Offences) Bill passed in Lok Sabha cannot be forgotten. The egalitarian society she had dreamed of is actually the dream of every Chhattisgarhiya. Chhattisgarh Government is striving to build an egalitarian society free from exploitation, discrimination, atrocities.”, said Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel while addressing the ‘Minimata Memorial Day’ programme via video conferencing from his residence office. Chief Minister inaugurated the program by paying tribute to former MP Minimata. Urban Administration Minister Dr Shiv Kumar Daharia also attended this program organized by Guru Ghasidas Sahitya and Cultural Academy.
Chief Minister said that the persona, the struggle and the contribution of Minimata ji, the first woman MP of Chhattisgarh, can never be forgotten. To realize the vision of Minimata Ji for society, we have to make collective efforts to eradicate the misery and pain of every person and build a society that is free from discrimination, oppression and atrocities. Baghel further said that Minimata understood the pain of poverty, displacement, exploitation and tyranny since childhood. She had witnessed the atrocities of British rulers. The movements against exploitation and tyranny in those times had a deep impact on her. Guru Agamdas was a Lok Sabha MP. After his death, Minimata became member of the Lok Sabha. She served as the member of the Lok Sabha from 1952 to 1972. As her political life began, Minimata intensified the work of social upliftment and dedicated her life towards eradication of social evils.
Chief Minister said that Minimata had envisioned Chhattisgarh as a financially empowered state, where no laborer has to leave his village for employment. Inspired by her vision, State government has worked relentlessly in the interest of farmers, laborers and the poor people during COVID crisis, while braving this calamity. While there was an economic slowdown across the country due to pandemic, Chhattisgarh recorded significant economic progress. Right from Bastar to Sarguja, every village underwent development and progress despite the pandemic. There was no shortage of employment in the state. Besides, financial aid was also provided to the migrant workers. Trains and buses were arranged to bring the migrant workers to Chhattisgarh safely. Along with the arrangement for employment, State Government has also facilitated free medical treatment to the migrant workers.
While addressing the program, Urban Administration Minister Dr. Shivkumar Daharia said that after her marriage to Guru Agamdas of Satnami Samaj, Minimata worked dedicatedly for the causes of women upliftment and alleviation of untouchability. Minimata actively participated in the national movement, Dalit upliftment and social reform activities. Minimata’s contribution is inspiring for all of us, her contribution will never be forgotten. Chairman of Guru Ghasidas Sahitya and Sanskritik Akademi, Shri K. P. Khande, litterateur Dr. J. R. Soni, Mr. D. S. Patre, MIC member of Raipur Municipal Corporation Sundar Jogi and followers of Satnam Panth were present on the occasion.
