Medical students take out funeral procession of NMC bill

Raipur: Hundreds of medical students across the state took out a funeral procession of National Medical Commission (NMC) bill- 2019 here on Saturday. Shouting slogans in protest against this bill, the agitating medical students said that it would not only play with the public health but will also ruin medical education.

The agitating medical students alleged that bill will lead to deterioration of medical education and degradation of health care services. It will allow doctors practicing other therapies to use combined therapy to treat patients. In addition to this inclusion of 50% seats to management quota will lead to corruption, they said, demanding withdrawal of this bill in public interest. Hundreds of medical students today gathered at Raipur Medical College campus.

Holding banners and posters, they subsequently took out a rally and reached Shastri Chowk where they shouted slogans in protest against NMC bill. According to them the bill will allow quacks and semi literate medical professionals to do practice in allopathy and modern medicine which in turn would affect the quality of treatment. IMA Hospital Board President Dr Rakesh Gupta said that apart from private doctors, medical students too joined the protest against NMC bill.

According to him this bill will encourage quackery besides allowing private colleges to arbitrarily collect fees. The bill would make it difficult for the poor children to pursue education in medical science; he said and added that this would also promote corruption.
