Raipur: Capital police have busted a major racket illegally dealing in psychotropic drugs and have arrested 5 people including owner of a medical agency. Police have also seized a total of 1800 bottles of psychotropic cough syrup worth Rs 2.50 lakh from them, 720 of which were on way to Janjgir-Champa in a car.
Giving details in this regard, ASP (City) Prafull Thakur on Friday said that a tip off was received late on Thursday night that a Maruti Ertiga vehicle is moving towards Telghaninaka Chowk illegally carrying huge consignment of psychotropic cough syrup. Immediately barricading was raised on the way and the particular vehicle bearing registration number CG11-AM-7131 was intercepted and stopped.
Following search of the vehicle led to recovery of 720 bottles (100ml each) of cough syrup from the vehicle. Neither of the two occupants, Nitesh Virani or Manoj Namdev, could provide any bills or relevant documents in support of transporting those cough syrup bottles. Both of them were then taken into custody and brought to police station along with their car. In the following interrogation, Nitesh told police that he runs a polythene business in Janjgir-Champa.
Medical Agency situated near Telghaninaka Chowk
He further told police of having purchased the seized cough syrup from Bhatapara’s Anil Kamnani who owns a medical agency named M/s. Prem Prakash Medical Agency situated near Telghaninaka Chowk. Police then sent a team to Bhatapara and Kamnani was taken into custody and brought to Raipur. In his confession, Kamnani told police that he had procured the cough syrup through Dhiraj Madhvani, the area salesman of a pharmaceutical company and an employee of Doomartarai based M/s. Ashoka Sales.
Following this revelation, police detained Madhvani who then told police that he used to procure those cough syrup bottles from M/s. Emmar Company in Uttar Pradesh and then supply them to Amit Gurubakshani, the proprietor of M/s. Ashoka Sales at Doomartarai. Police then raided the premises of M/s. Ashoka Sales and seized huge stock of illegally procured cough syrup from its warehouse.
Following this recovery, firm owner Gurubakshani was also taken into custody. All five of them have since been booked under Section 21B of NDPS Act by Ganj police and further investigation in this regard is now underway.
