Masked thieves captured on camera; social media helps in identification

Bhilai, Sep 14: With the arrest of four ruffians, police claimed to have solved a theft case which occurred at village Tarra of Patan on the intervening night of September 13. Two of the accused were seen in the footage of CCTV installed in the shop. Police shared the footage on social media after which the accused were identified with the help of sources. The Anti Crime and Cyber Unit and team of Patan Police Station worked jointly to solve this case.

While addressing media persons at Patan on Wednesday, SP Dr Abhishek Pallava informed that the victim Tribhuvan Lal Sahu owns a mobile shop at Chandrakar Complex in village Tarra. On the intervening night of September 13, some unidentified thieves trespassed into the shop by breaking the shutter from one side and burgled 17 nos mobile phones, five nos speakers and Rs 3000 cash. The case was lodged under section 457, 380 of IPC.

Taking the matter into serious cognizance, a joint team led by Inspector Santosh Mishra (i/c ACCU) and Inspector Rajkumar Lehre (SHO, Patan Police Station) was formed to investigate the matter. Investigations were launched under the guidance of ASP (City) Sanjay Dhruv, ASP (Rural) Anant Sahu, SDOP (Patan) Devansh Singh Rathore and DSP (Crime) Nasar Siddhiqui.

The team scanned the suspects, habitual offenders and those who have been recently released from jail. On examining the CCTV recordings of the shop, two suspects were seen in the footage. The footage was shared on social media groups and with the help of its sources; police identified the suspects as Shekhar Thakur and Rikaas Hiyal of Raipur. Police team immediately moved to Raipur and the suspects were arrested from the Amapara area of Raipur. Initially they refused but during sustained interrogation, they confessed to have committed theft at the mobile shop. They disclosed that Yogesh Nirmalkar and Rahul Thakur of village Loharsi assisted them in the crime. They were also taken into custody. The accused further disclosed that they chalked out the plan of theft at Loharsi. They broke the shop’s shutter with the help of a rod and crowbar (Sabbal) and escaped with the mobile phones and other items. They divided the stolen booty amongst them. Police seized 17 nos mobile phones, five speakers, other electronic items and two bikes used in the crime.

The accused Rahul Thakur (20) of village Loharsi; Shekhar Thakur (20) of Amapara, Raipur; Rikaas Hiyal (18) of Amapara, Raipur and Yogesh Nirmalkar (24) of village Loharsi have been arrested on charges of theft.

SI RS Jurri, Head Constable Anil Shukla, Prahlad Singh Sirmour, Constables Tushar Verma, Dileshwar Pathare, Rajeshwari and ACCU team members including ASI Purna Bahadur, Head Constable Roman Lal Sonwani, Chandra Shekhar Banjir, Constable Santosh Gupta, Pankaj Chaturvedi, Rajkumar Chandra, Jugnu Singh, Vikrant Kumar, Shahbaz Khan, Upendra Yadav and Ashwini Yadu played a vital role in solving the case.
