Manipur Elections 2022: Filing of nominations for 1st phase polls to end this evening

The filing of nominations for the first phase of assembly elections in Manipur will end today. Many candidates filed their nomination papers yesterday. More than 80 candidates submitted their nomination papers to the concerned Returning Officer and the total number of candidates who have filed nomination papers for the first phase poll has crossed 120 till yesterday.

In the first phase, voting for 38 assembly constituencies will be held on 27th of this month. Around 10 candidates filed nomination papers for second phase polls in Manipur yesterday. In this phase, elections will be held for 22 assembly constituencies on 3rd of next month. Meanwhile, a team of Election Commission of India led by Chief Election Commissioner of India Sushil Chandra arrived at Imphal on a two days visit to the State yesterday.

He was accompanied by Election Commissioners Rajiv Kumar and Anup Chandra Pandey. The Chief Election Commissioner of India convened a meeting this evening with District Election Officers, Superintendent of Police, State Election Officers and other state officials and reviewed the preparedness of polls in Manipur.
