During the Corona transition period, the sanitation workers of BMC are risking their lives to deliver their duties of city sanitisation, garbage collection, etc. Unfortunately, instead of encouraging such employees as Corona Warriors, some people are assaulting them. One such case came into light in Ward-15 Vaishali Nagar, where a local resident poured kerosene on the cleanliness worker and tried to set him on fire. The accused set the garbage collection rickshaw on fire.
The victim sanitisation worker Heera Lal and BMC employees have lodged complaint about this incident at Vaishali Nagar Police Station against Ward-15 Vaishali Nagar EWS Colony resident Sanjay Govind Dani. The victim cleanliness worker Heera Lal Verma has filed a written complaint and has provided a video of the incidence as evidence. The victim works for a sanitation agency of BMC. As per his routine, he was collecting garbage door-to-door. Around 11:00 hrs in Vaishali Nagar, he was dumping the garbage collected from the houses of the EWS Colony at the primary garbage dumping site. At this moment, one Sanjay Govind Dani reached there and started abusing the cleanliness worker and asked him to not dump the garbage in open. When the cleanliness worker refused, the accused set the rickshaw on fire. When the victim tried to extinguish the fire, the accused poured kerosene on him also. The cleanliness worker got scared and escaped from the spot. He immediately informed the supervisor about the incident. Later when they reached the crime scene, they saw that the rickshaw was completely damaged due to fire.
It is worth mentioning that under the Swachh Bharat Mission, BMC has awarded the contract for door-to-door garbage collection and transportation of garbage. Contractor’s employees collect garbage from homes in rickshaws as per contract conditions. When the rickshaw is filled with garbage, it is emptied at the spot fixed for primary dumping. Zone 2 Health i/c Anil Mishra and Anjani Singh were present at the police station.
