Raipur: Life was thrown out of gear on Wednesday as torrential rains hit capital city right since morning hours and many a low lying areas were inundated with kneedeep water by evening hours, making it sleepless night for many a denizens busy in throwing water out of their houses.
With no electricity in many such areas, it was another major problem of finding the right thing and putting costly gadgets and items at safer places. The main roads of city were also inundated with rainwater and drain-water coming out from clogged drains, posing problems for the passer-by and there was traffic-jam like situation on the main roads of city in the evening hours.
There are also reports of heavy rains in Balodabazar, Mahasamund, Dhamtari, Narayanpur, Bastar, Bijapur, Dantewada and Sukma as well. With clearcut warning by the Meteorological Department of ‘Yellow’ alert in Raipur and nearby districts, it rained cats and dogs throughout the day and this alert is for another 24 hours. Since early morning hours it started raining heavily in city and it posed lot of problems for children going to school.
Though in the morning it was raining heavily in intervals, but by evening it turned into heavy rains consistently till late in the night. The market witnessed dull response due to heavy rains and people preferred to stay indoors. This time heavy showers to some extent have kept the hope alive of the farmers and they expect that it will help in timely reaping of crops.
On the other hand, the residents living in lowlying areas faced massive problems. As the drains were are clogged and with no source of flow of water, it entered inside their houses and the night food could not be prepared in many a houses, as they were busy in removing of drain-water and excess rainwater from their houses.
RMC authorities have not made any emergency plans to handle such situation and people were literally stranded in the locality and house they live. Due to heavy rains and strong winds, there are also reports of branches falling from the trees and causing jam and due to which power supply in many areas was disrupted throughout the day. The electricity department team has kept its team ready and on the alert.
The flexes on the advertisement boards also were blown-off at many places and they fell on the electrical lines causing disturbances in power supply from morning till evening hours.
