Raigarh: In a boost to Indian Railways, JSPL has successfully executed the first-ever Rail order to Indian Railways on 29th July 2019. JSPL has supplied 126604 tonnes of long rails to Indian Railways in record time and far ahead of schedule. Out of this total quantity, JSPL supplied 97,400 tonnes of long rails on 22nd April 2019, in record time and four months ahead of schedule.
Earlier, on July 2018, JSPL had bagged the firstever global tender for supply of rails to Indian Railways. The tender saw bidding by eight leading players amongst which were the world’s seven topmost manufacturers of rails. The total value of the contract was at Rs. 732 crores. In addition to long rails orders from Indian Railways, JSPL is also expecting orders of a minimum volume of 2 lakh tonnes per annum of 13/26 metre rails from Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) and IRCON International Limited.
It is noteworthy in this connection that, recently, JSPL won an order from RVNL to supply 89,042 tonnes of UIC 60 kg IRS T- 12 880-grade 13-metre rails for RVNL’s upcoming projects. The order is valued at around Rs. 665 crores. RVNL has sent the LOA for the same to JSPL on May 8, 2019. Part of the USD22-billion OP Jindal Group, JSPL has a presence in steel, power, mining and infrastructure sectors. JSPL had set up India’s most modern rail mill at its Raigarh plant in 2003 to become the second player after SAIL to produce rails in India.
Its rails are one of the longest, which can go up to 260 metres rail panels through flash butt welding carried out within the plant premises. JSPL has already developed Head Hardened Rails through state of the art technology from SMSMeer Germany. This Rails head hardening facility is brought first time in India. The head hardened Rails are suitable for Highspeed trains and Metro Rails where the movement is quite frequent. JSPL is partnering with Indian Railways and its subsidiaries like IRCON & RVNL to accomplish the Prime minister’s Make in India campaign.
