Inter-state fraud arrested from Akola for duping elderly woman of Rs 3 lakh

Central Chronicle News
Raipur, Feb 12: Saraswati Nagar police and Raipur Police Cyber Cell in a joint operation arrested an inter-state fraud from Akola in Maharashtra for duping an elderly woman here in the capital of Rs 3 lakh by posing as doctor. Police, meanwhile, continue to look for the broker who had been providing victims to the arrested quack.
It should be recalled that retired teacher Shitala Singh had lodged a complaint in Saraswati Nagar police station about being duped of Rs 3 lakh by two frauds on pretext of providing her 100% relief from her long standing problem of arthritis. The complainant was lured into the trap by a broker named Rahul Agrawal of Kota who then called the quack Usman Ali, a native of Bundi district in Rajasthan but presently residing in Akola. Agrawal introduced Ali as a renowned arthritis surgeon Dr Rehman from Nagpur.
After examining the complainant, Ali said that her treatment will cost Rs 2.20 lakh and further she will have to take medicines worth Rs 75000. Not suspecting Ali at all, the complainant gave him fees of Rs 2.20 lakh and also purchased the medicines prescribed by him. However, there was no relief to her despite following all the advices. Attempting to contact Rahul Agrawal and fraud Dr Rehman turned futile as their cell phones were repeatedly found out of service.
Taking seriously the nature of fraud, police registered an offence under Section 420, 34 IPC against both the absconding frauds and launched an intense investigation into the matter. Recently, police managed to trace the whereabouts of fraud Dr Rehman’s cell phone at Akola from where he was arrested on Thursday and brought to the city later on Friday afternoon.
Arrested accused has since confessed of similarly duping two more persons, Bhupinder Singh Ahluwalia of Tatibandh and Ramkrishna Dongre of Bhawana Nagar in Khamardih. While Ahluwalia was duped of Rs 50000, Dongre was duped of Rs 85470. Following his confession, police have registered two more FIRs against the accused duo and a massive hunt is now underway to nab the absconding broker Rahul Agrawal.
