IndiGo and Air Deccan planes came dangerously close; probe now on

In a major mid-air incident that could have gone horribly wrong, planes of IndiGo and Air Deccan came dangerously close over Dhaka airspace.

The accident is said to have been averted because of an automatically generated warning which alerted the pilots of IndiGo and Air Deccan planes.

The planes were so close at the time that they breached the mandatory separation limit, it was informed.

The incident is now being probed by Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).

The incident is said to have taken place on May 2 when the IndiGo flight was Agartala-bound and the Air Deccan’s plane was on its way to Kolkata.

The incident has been treated as “serious” as IndiGo Airbus A320 plane and Air Deccan’s Beechcraft 1900D were just about 700 meters away from each other.
