Indian shuttlers P V Sindhu and Sai Praneeth advanced to the quarterfinals of the Japan Open singles

In badminton, Indian shuttlers P V Sindhu and Sai Praneeth advanced to the quarterfinals of the Japan Open singles event in Tokyo.

Fifth seed Sindhu defeated Aya Ohori of Japan 11-21, 21-10, 21-13 in the second round of women’s singles while unseeded Sai Praneeth beat local shuttler Kanta Tsuneyama 21-13, 21-16, in a men’s singles encounter that lasted 45 minutes.

Sindhu will next face the winner of the match between China’s Chen Xiao Xin and fourth seeded Japanese Akane Yamaguchi.

However, H S Prannoy bowed out of the tournament facing a 9-21, 15-21 defeat against Rasmus Gemke of Denmark.

In the men’s doubles event the pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty made it to the quarterfinals after emerging victorious in the second round.
