Raipur, May 30: While the inclusion of firebrand tribal leader Renuka Singh into Modi cabinet on Thursday, has surprised Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders from Chhattisgarh but has also resulted in closure of doors for several heavy-weights including the Rajya Sabha members Saroj Pandey and Ramvichar Netam in central cabinet.
Newly-elected Lok Sabha member from the tribal-dominated Sarguja constituency Renuka Singh had been preferred over the heavy-weights as she could be an option before the saffron brigade to bring the BJP back on track as the party had failed to win not a single seat in the entire Sarguja region during the recently held Legislative Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh. Her tribal credential as well as her short experience as Minister in the erstwhile Raman Singh government, paved way for her entry into the Narendra Modi government as part of the exercise of the saffron brigade to give representation from Chhattisgarh. Prior to her, former Lok Sabha member from Raigarh Vishnu Deo Sai had been in the cabinet of Modi government but this time, the BJP had denied party ticket to all the 10 sitting MPs in Chhattisgarh as part of the exercise to check the anti incumbency factor against them.
With her inclusion in the Cabinet, the BJP has got an able substitute of Rajya Sabha member from the region Ramvichar Netam who is also the President of BJP Tribal Morcha. It in the process has also given message to the heavy-weights that instead of aspiring for plum portfolio, the senior leaders have to work hard to strengthen the Organization which received set back in the recently held Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly polls.
BJP General Secretary and Rajya Sabha member Saroj Pandey too was hopeful for Cabinet berth this time but owing to her responsibility of poll-bound Maharashtra, the tribal leader Renuka Singh was preferred to her.
Renuka Singh was twice elected to Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly but had been denied party ticket in the recently held Legislative polls. However, on given opportunity, she deliver the task by defeating the Congress heavy-weight Khel Sai Singh with a margin of more than 1.5 lakh votes from Sarguja Lok Sabha seat this time.
